Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall, the formerly married duo known for their collaborative house-flipping endeavors, are back—but this time, it’s a full-blown competition. In HGTV’s new series, The Flip Off, they’re not just flipping houses, they’re flipping off each other (figuratively, of course).
The two-hour series premiere kicks off with the exes engaging in some aggressive, albeit playful, pre-flip soccer, immediately establishing the show’s competitive spirit. The premise is simple enough: each has one week to locate, purchase, and renovate a property, with the ultimate goal of maximizing profit. Enter Real Housewives of Orange County alum Heather Dubrow as guest judge, presumably to assess kitchen aesthetics with a discerning (and heavily Botoxed) eye.
So far, so predictable. But then comes the curveball. Christina drops a bombshell: she’s getting divorced (again), and wants to forge ahead in the competition solo. It’s a genuinely surprising twist, one that throws a wrench into the established dynamic and injects a dose of real-life drama into what could easily have been a by-the-numbers house-flipping show. How will this impact the competition? Will Tarek offer a chivalrous helping hand? Will Christina leverage her newfound singlehood for sympathy points?
This premiere looks set to be a fascinating mix of real estate one-upmanship, personal turmoil, and dubious design choices.
The Flip Off premieres Wednesday, January 29, at 8:00 PM on HGTV.
