Channel 4’s true crime series, In the Footsteps of Killers, continues its third season of cold case re-investigations this Tuesday, July 1 at 10 PM. Episode 3 digs into the brutal, unsolved 1991 murder of Vera Anderson, a mother of two from Widnes, whose case has baffled authorities for over three decades.
Actress Emilia Fox, working alongside criminologist David Wilson and Dr. Graham Hill, reopens the books on Vera’s death. Vera was found strangled with her throat cut in her car just five hours after leaving her home. Her hurried departure followed a mysterious 10 PM phone call on August 25, 1991. She asked a neighbor to watch her seven-year-old son, stating she would only be gone for a few minutes. She never came back.
The team begins its own independent inquiry, sifting through old evidence, re-interviewing potential witnesses, and looking for new leads. Their goal is to shine a fresh light on what happened to Vera and, hopefully, bring some measure of closure to her family. With no one ever charged in the case, the investigative team looks for new information about who might be responsible for Vera’s death.
