ITV’s heartwarming series For the Love of Dogs returns this Tuesday, 7 May 2024, at 8 pm, with Alison Hammond at the helm for the fourth episode. The show, filmed at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, showcases the work of the organisation in rescuing and rehoming animals.

In this episode, Hammond meets two inseparable golden labradors who are struggling to find a new home together. She also lends a helping hand in teaching a three-month-old whippet how to swim and befriends a shy Maltese with trust issues.

The series, now in its twelfth season, previously aired with the late Paul O’Grady as its host from 2012 until his death in 2023. O’Grady, an ambassador for Battersea, was known for his love of dogs, and his presence on the show is greatly missed by fans.

Taking on the role, Hammond faced some initial backlash from viewers who felt that she could not replace O’Grady. However, she has since received praise for her warm and authentic approach, with some viewers noting that she clearly adores the dogs, and the feeling is mutual.

For the Love of Dogs offers an insightful look at the work of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and the lives of the animals they care for. It also highlights the dedication of the staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to find these animals their forever homes.
