Found: “Missing While Misunderstood” (NBC, Thursday, January 30, 2025)

In the cutthroat world of network television, where procedurals breed like rabbits and cancellations are swift and merciless, NBC’s Found has carved out a niche. It’s pulpy, yes, but also surprisingly thoughtful. This week’s episode, “Missing While Misunderstood,” looks to continue that trend, tackling a case that feels ripped from the headlines while simultaneously furthering the show’s complicated personal dramas.

A Black, non-neurotypical boy goes missing, and the clock is ticking. The Missing & Anonymous team understands the unique challenges of this case. Finding a missing child is always a race against time, but the added issue of the boy’s neurodivergence raises the stakes considerably. The team knows that he could be experiencing sensory overload, increasing the urgency of their search.

Meanwhile, the simmering tension between Gabi and Sir, which has been building all season, finally boils over. Their conflict has been a slow burn, and “Missing While Misunderstood” appears ready to deliver a much-needed explosion.

Plus, a ghost from Margaret’s past resurfaces. This blast from the past has a mysterious agenda, suggesting that old wounds may be reopened. It’s a classic trope, sure, but Found has often proven adept at twisting familiar narratives into something fresh. Let’s hope this returning character doesn’t become a tiresome distraction.
