Channel 4’s Four in a Bed rarely disappoints when it comes to serving up a healthy dose of B&B-based drama, and this week’s concluding visit looks set to maintain that tradition. The action shifts to West Malling, Kent, where host Ollie is pinning his hopes on the “je ne sais quoi” of his French-styled establishment, No 64 at the Joiners.
The format, of course, is inherently designed to generate friction. Putting four sets of competing B&B owners under each other’s roofs is a recipe for nitpicking, strategic scoring, and, occasionally, outright hostility. A visit to a zoo provides a brief respite from the competitive atmosphere, but it’s merely the calm before the inevitable breakfast storm.
The preview teases kitchen tensions and Ollie’s evident shock at the feedback and scores he receives. It’s the classic Four in a Bed formula: a blend of genuine hospitality, thinly veiled criticisms, and the underlying awkwardness of judging someone else’s livelihood (and, let’s be frank, their taste). Whether Ollie’s French flair can triumph over the scrutiny of his rivals is the central question, and the answer, as always, will likely involve some uncomfortable feedback forms.
