Four Corners: Do No Harm (ABC TV Monday 6 February 2023)
Emily Baker investigates the doctors who violate their Hippocratic oath and are still allowed to practise in “Do No Harm,” which airs on Four Corners on Monday.
This week on Four Corners, we learn that doctors who have grabbed, dated, or raped their patients are still able to practise medicine in Australia despite the country’s lax health regulating system.
Since 2010, hundreds of medical professionals have been disciplined by tribunals for sexual misconduct involving patients, according to a six-month inquiry of the medical complaints handling process.
Many people have active employment profiles.
Reporter Emily Baker analysed a decade’s worth of healthcare complaints using forensic tools and discovered a tangled and unwieldy system that is failing to safeguard the public from sexual predators.
Several unsettling situations are examined, with patients telling Baker horrible tales of betrayal at the hands of people entrusted with their care. The show also examines the system’s clumsy response to these incidents.
Baker seeks to understand what parts of the system are broken and how they could be fixed.
Airdate: Monday 6 February 2023 at 8.30pm on ABC TV and iView.
