FOX Adds Josh Charles-Led “Best Medicine” Adaptation of “Doc Martin” to Schedule

Josh Charles, familiar to many from “The Good Wife” and “Sports Night,” is preparing for a significant change of scenery. He’s set to star in FOX’s upcoming one-hour comedy “Best Medicine,” shifting from the high-stakes world of big-city surgery to the peculiar rhythm of a small East Coast fishing village.

Ordered for the 2025-2026 broadcast season, the series introduces Charles as Dr. Martin Best. He’s a surgeon who leaves a prominent Boston position for this quiet coastal life. The challenge? While brilliant in the operating room, Dr. Best possesses an abrupt, socially awkward bedside manner that immediately puts him at odds with the area’s quirky residents. The tension rises because, despite his off-putting disposition, he becomes their only physician.

Beyond the professional hurdles, Dr. Best carries personal baggage. His gruff exterior reportedly conceals a new phobia and psychological issues that make genuine connection difficult. Yet, the series hints that the unique, perhaps surprisingly resilient, spirit of the small community might be exactly what the doctor needs to confront his internal struggles.
