A significant shift is underway at Fox News as Will Cain prepares to step into the late afternoon timeslot formerly occupied by Neil Cavuto. The network has announced that Cain, previously a fixture on Fox & Friends Weekend, will launch his own program, The Will Cain Show, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. This move follows Cavuto’s departure from Fox News in December 2024, after he chose not to renew his contract, ending a 28 year run with the network. The changes signal a new direction for Fox News in the post-Cavuto era.
Cain’s new program will air weekdays at 4 p.m. ET, taking the slot that was previously held by Your World with Neil Cavuto. Fox News executives have indicated that The Will Cain Show will present a “comprehensive look at the news of the day in a signature podcast style.” This new approach suggests a possible shift in tone and format for the network’s afternoon programming, potentially incorporating a more conversational and opinion-driven style that Cain has become known for. His final appearance on Fox & Friends Weekend will be Sunday, January 18, 2025. Cain will be succeeded by Charlie Hurt, formerly an editor at The Washington Times.
In addition to Cain’s move, Fox News has made other changes to its weekend schedule. Starting January 18, 2025, both The Fox Report and The Big Weekend Show will be expanded to two hours each. The Fox Report will now run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET, followed by The Big Weekend Show from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET on Saturdays and Sundays. These adjustments point toward an effort to bolster Fox News’s weekend programming by extending key news broadcasts.
Further personnel changes at Fox News include Dagen McDowell joining The Big Money Show, which will move to a new weekday slot from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET, starting January 27, 2025. McDowell will continue in her role as co-host of The Bottom Line, maintaining her presence on the network in multiple capacities.
Neil Cavuto, who hosted Your World With Neil Cavuto for over 28 years, reflected on his time at Fox News during his final broadcast on December 19, 2024. He emphasized the importance of reporting the news without excessive shouting or name-calling, which became a defining quality of his show. Cavuto’s departure brings to a close a long chapter for the network.
Will Cain first joined Fox News in 2020, following a five-year stint at ESPN. He has built a following for his commentary and has been a frequent presence on various Fox News programs, making him a familiar face to the network’s audience. His move to the 4 p.m. ET time slot is a major career progression for Cain. With this lineup change, Fox News will be watched closely to see if this shift in programming meets the expectations of both viewers and the network.
