Fox is turning to the Old Testament for its next event series—but this time, the women are at the center.
The network has ordered The Faithful, a six-part limited series that revisits foundational stories from the Book of Genesis through the lens of five iconic women—Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel. The series is slated to debut during the Easter and Passover season in 2026, positioning it as a seasonal tentpole with cross-cultural appeal.
Julie Weitz and René Echevarria co-created the project and serve as executive producers alongside CSI veteran Carol Mendelsohn. Fox Entertainment Studios is producing.
The series will explore the personal and often volatile dynamics between these women, with narratives focused on love, betrayal, power, family, and spiritual reckoning. According to the network, The Faithful will offer emotionally charged, at times provocative takes on the lives behind the scripture—designed to feel grounded and emotionally accessible to modern audiences.
“This opens a new storytelling lane for us,” said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network.
The announcement reflects a broader move by Fox to diversify its scripted slate with limited-run dramas that tap into deeper cultural themes while appealing to audiences seeking character-led narratives outside the typical procedural or genre format.
No casting has been announced yet, but development is underway with production expected to begin later this year.
For a network looking to build its identity around bold event programming, The Faithful could signal a strategic shift—and potentially a new annual tradition.
