FOX Wipes Out “Rescue: HI-Surf” After One Season

Rescue Hi Surf Key Art

Well, that didn’t last long. FOX has decided to pull the plug on its lifeguard drama “Rescue: HI-Surf” after just a single season. The show’s 19th and now final episode aired back on Sunday, March 31, without much fanfare, and it seems that’s all we’ll get.

The drama, which starred Robbie Magasiva, Arielle Kebbel, and Adam Demos among others, tried to bring the action and drama of a Hawaiian lifeguard unit to the screen. Created by Matt Kester, who also executive produced with John Wells, Daniele Nathanson, and Erin Jontow, the series was a joint effort from Fox Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television, and John Wells Productions.

Despite the hopes that come with a new broadcast drama, “Rescue: HI-Surf” just didn’t make enough waves to stick around. As of now, there’s no talk of the show finding a new home on a different network or streaming service, which usually signals a pretty definitive end.

While FOX hasn’t given a specific reason for the cancellation, these decisions usually come down to performance – whether that’s ratings, cost, or a combination of factors. Regardless of the why, it’s a hit to FOX’s slate of original dramas and surely disappointing news for the show’s cast, crew, and the fans who did tune in.
