Stories passed down through millennia are finding new life on television. FOX is set to explore the powerful, often dramatic lives of legendary figures from The Old Testament in a new event series. “The Faithful” will bring the foundational narratives of the Book of Genesis to the screen, focusing on the women whose experiences shaped history.

This six-episode limited series will air over three consecutive weeks in Spring 2026, timed around the Easter and Passover season. At its heart are five celebrated matriarchs: Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel. The series examines their lives through the lens of universal experiences – family bonds, the pangs of love, the sting of jealousy, and the pursuit of power.

The saga begins with Sarah, whose long-held barrenness leads to a pivotal arrangement involving her maidservant Hagar. This act sparks intense emotional conflict as Hagar bears Abraham a child, Ishmael, only for the situation to deepen when Sarah later conceives Isaac. Then there is Rebekah, whose fierce conviction about which of her twin sons should inherit leads to a daring deception against her dying husband Isaac, setting the stage for enduring family division.

Later, the rivalry between sisters Leah and Rachel for Jacob’s affection unfolds. A twist of fate sees Leah married first, forcing Jacob to marry Rachel as well, leading to a bitter competition for his love and lineage. The narrative follows Rachel to a poignant sacrifice upon their return to Canaan.

Behind the scenes, “The Faithful” is the first project under Carol Mendelsohn’s first-look deal with FOX Entertainment. Rene Echevarria, known for his work on series like “Carnival Row,” penned the initial episode and serves as the showrunner.

Produced by FOX Entertainment Studios and distributed by FOX Entertainment Global.
