In the fifth episode of Apple TV+’s Franklin, titled “The Natural State of Man,” tensions mount between Benjamin Franklin and John Adams, while Madame Brillon asserts her power and Temple decides to fight his own war.
The series, based on Stacy Schiff’s book “A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America”, explores Franklin’s secret mission to France during the American Revolution. As the story unfolds, Franklin, played by Michael Douglas, navigates the intricate world of diplomacy, using his wit and ingenuity to secure French support for the American cause.
There is growing discord between Franklin and Adams, portrayed by Eddie Marsan. The two men have differing views on diplomacy, with Adams favoring a more direct approach, which often leads to clashes with Franklin’s more nuanced strategies.
