Apple TV+ is set to release a new limited series, “Franklin,” on Friday April 12, 2024, with the first three episodes available immediately and the remaining five episodes released weekly. The series is based on Stacy Schiff’s book, “A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America,” and stars Michael Douglas as Benjamin Franklin.
The series explores a pivotal moment in Franklin’s life when, at the age of 70, he embarked on a secret mission to France in December 1776. At the time, Franklin was already world-famous for his electrical experiments. However, his passion and power are tested as he attempts to convince the French monarchy to support America’s fight for independence.
The supporting cast includes Noah Jupe as Franklin’s grandson, Temple Franklin, along with Thibault de Montalembert, Daniel Mays, Ludivine Sagnier, Eddie Marsan, Assaad Bouab, Jeanne Balibar, and Theodore Pellerin. The series is written by Kirk Ellis and directed by Tim Van Patten, both of whom also serve as executive producers.
“Franklin” has been described as a “historical epic” and a “gripping” drama that brings to life a crucial chapter in American history. It showcases Franklin’s determination, ingenuity, and diplomatic skills as he navigates high-stakes negotiations in a foreign land.
The series has generated buzz ahead of its release, with the trailer (above) showcasing the late 18th-century setting, beautiful French costumes, and locations.
