Game of Thrones and the 12 Kingdoms of the Emmy Awards
HBO’s Game of Thrones has swept all before it at this years Emmy Awards notching up 12 wins out of it’s 24 nominations including for the first time the award for best drama series.
The 12 awards sets a new record of wins for any single show, beating out The West Wing which won 9 awards in 2000.
Other awards won by GoT included Peter Dinklage for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series; David Benioff and DB Weiss for Outstanding writing for a drama series and David Nutter for Outstanding Directing.
It capped a great night for HBO who topped the chart with 43 awards overall with Veep and mini-series Olive Kitteridge also scoring highly.
Other winners included Jon Hamm who finally took out the outstanding lead actor award after eight years of trying; Jeffrey Tambor, Viola Davis (first woman of colour to take out the outstanding actress award) for How To Get Away With Murder and Amy Schumer for outstanding variety sketch series.
