Garret Dillahunt is set to stir up trouble in HBO’s upcoming “Green Lantern” series, Lanterns. The Fear the Walking Dead alum will play a recurring role as William Macon, described as a charismatic cowboy with a dark side. Macon’s “ruthless ambition” lurking beneath a veneer of charm suggests he’ll be a formidable antagonist for the series leads, played by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre.
Lanterns reimagines the Green Lantern mythos, focusing on a terrestrial mystery rather than cosmic adventures. Chandler plays veteran Lantern Hal Jordan, while Pierre takes on the role of newly minted Lantern John Stewart. The duo investigate a murder in the American heartland, a decidedly down-to-earth setting for the intergalactic police force. Kelly Macdonald also stars as Sheriff Kerry.
The eight-episode series hails from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, with Mundy serving as showrunner. James Hawes directs the first two episodes. While Dillahunt’s character details hint at a villainous role, the exact nature of Macon’s involvement in the central mystery is yet to be revealed.
Lanterns is a production of HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Executive producers include Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, Tom King, and James Hawes.
