National Geographic’s six-part series “Genghis Khan: The Secret History of the Mongols,” continues this Thursday with a look at the early conquests that laid the foundation for the vast Mongol Empire. “The Birth of The Empire” focuses on Chinggis Khan’s rise to power, highlighting his strategic brilliance and ruthlessness.

The episode explores how he forged a formidable army, instilled loyalty in his followers, and systematically eliminated rivals to consolidate his control. The documentary then follows his initial campaigns against the Tanguts and the Jin Dynasty, marking the beginning of his imperial ambitions and setting the stage for his transformation from tribal leader to world conqueror. Based on a new translation of “The Secret History of the Mongols.”
