National Geographic reveals the story of one of history’s most formidable figures this Thursday with the premiere of “Genghis Khan: The Secret History of the Mongols.” The six-part series begins with “Temujin: The Boy Who Will Be Khan,” focusing on the often-overlooked early years of the legendary warrior.
Forget the sweeping conquests and established empire; this episode takes us back to a time before the name Genghis Khan struck fear into the hearts of nations. We see the world through the eyes of young Temujin, experiencing his family’s fall from grace, his struggles to survive in a harsh and unforgiving environment, and the early alliances that shaped his destiny.
Based on a newly translated version of “The Secret History of the Mongols,” the series offers fresh perspectives and details about Temujin’s transformation into the leader who would unite the warring tribes of Mongolia and build an empire that stretched across continents.
