Alexa and Carlos PenaVega are back together, professionally speaking at least. This time, it’s for a GAF Christmas movie, and let’s just say my expectations are… present. The film, “Get Him Back For Christmas,” features Alexa as Bella Harlan, a music star nursing a broken heart, and Carlos as Jack Grayton, a Salvation Army employee. Because nothing says holiday cheer like a heartbroken pop star and charitable work, am I right?
Carlos, not content with just acting, also wrote and performs an original song – you guessed it, “Get Him Back for Christmas.” The song is featured in a scene filmed at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. And yes, the cheerleaders are involved. It’s a lot.
Now, the premise: Bella enlists Jack to help write a song to win back her ex, who was, conveniently, also her singing partner. It’s all very high-concept. As if the PenaVegas weren’t enough, GAF has thrown Mario Lopez, Victoria Jackson, and Natasha Bure into the mix. The cast also includes Abbey Romeo and Alan Powell.
Holiday movies are a dime a dozen at this time of year, but there’s a certain… earnestness to these GAF productions that’s hard to resist. Will this one be any different? Probably not. Will it feature awkward romantic tension, predictable plot twists, and enough fake snow to bury a small village? Almost certainly. Will I watch it anyway? That’s a hard yes.
