Zak Bagans and the Ghost Adventures crew have seen their share of alleged spooks. Shadowy figures lurking in darkened hallways? Check. Disembodied voices whispering sweet nothings (or perhaps not-so-sweet somethings)? Double-check. But a voodoo curse? That’s venturing into some genuinely fresh territory, even for these seasoned paranormal investigators.
In the upcoming “Mansfield Meltdown” episode of House Calls, Bagans and his team—Aaron Goodwin, Billy Tolley, and Jay Wasley—travel to Texas to assist a couple plagued by what appears to be an increasingly aggressive entity. We’ve seen the “poltergeist activity escalating” trope before, sure, but with the added palaver of a potential voodoo curse, things take a decidedly more sinister turn.
While the specifics remain tantalizingly under wraps, the Travel Channel’s synopsis hints at a “shocking discovery” that links the haunting to this alleged curse. Now, whether this involves unearthed artifacts, cryptic symbols, or just a really creepy doll remains to be seen. But given the Ghost Adventures team’s penchant for the dramatic, we can probably expect a healthy dose of jump scares and ominous pronouncements.
One can’t help but wonder if this foray into voodoo is a desperate attempt to inject some life into a franchise that, let’s face it, has become somewhat predictable. Or maybe, just maybe, there’s something genuinely unsettling happening in Mansfield, Texas.
Ghost Adventures: House Calls airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Travel Channel.
