What This Means Now: With filming imminent and the main actors in place, fans can expect more news about the series soon. The show picks up years after the events depicted in The Handmaid’s Tale, continuing the story within the oppressive society of Gilead. The focus is expected to shift partly towards Hannah/Agnes (June Osborne’s daughter) and her experiences inside Gilead.

The Bigger Picture: The Testaments, based on Atwood’s 2019 novel and developed by Handmaid’s Tale creator Bruce Miller, aims to expand the world established in the original series. It provides an opportunity to explore Gilead from different perspectives and answer questions left lingering by the parent show. Its arrival continues Hulu’s investment in the popular dystopian franchise. A premiere date has not yet been set.
