On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, ABC’s GMA3: What You Need to Know welcomes chef Karla T. Vasquez, star of Broadway Ali Louis Bourzgui, and a celebration of the USO to the show.
Karla T. Vasquez, a trained chef and food writer, and founder of SalviSoul, joins the show to discuss her recent endeavors. Vasquez, who was born in El Salvador and moved to Los Angeles as an infant, struggled to find Salvadoran cookbooks in the U.S. This inspired her to create SalviSoul, a platform dedicated to preserving Salvadoran food culture through stories, cooking classes, and recipes.
Her cookbook, The SalviSoul Cookbook: Salvadoran Recipes and the Women Who Preserve Them, was released on April 30, 2024, and is the first U.S. cookbook focused on Salvadoran food from a major publishing house. Vasquez is also a food justice advocate, food historian, and proponent for healthy food accessibility in low-income communities. She has contributed to various publications, including the L.A. Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Teen Vogue, and Eater L.A.
Ali Louis Bourzgui, a Moroccan-American actor, singer, musician, and dancer, joins the show to discuss his recent success. Bourzgui is currently starring as Tommy in the Broadway revival of The Who’s Tommy at the Nederlander Theatre.
This role has earned him a Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance and an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Performer in a Broadway Musical. Bourzgui’s previous work includes Paul in the Company 1st National Tour and Haled in The Band’s Visit National Tour. He is also a singer-songwriter with a debut album in the works.
The show will also feature a celebration of the USO, a nonprofit organization that provides support and services to military service members and their families.
GMA3: What You Need to Know airs Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. on ABC.
