GMA3 What You Need To Know

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, GMA3: What You Need to Know welcomes ABC’s e-commerce editor Tory Johnson, fashion designer Kitty Black Perkins, and television personality Mike Rowe.

Tory Johnson, a career-savvy expert and the founder and CEO of Women For Hire, is a familiar face on ABC. She is the workplace contributor on Good Morning America and anchors Home Work, a weekly program on ABC News Now. Johnson is also the creator of Good Morning America’s popular Deals & Steals series, where she offers exclusive savings on a range of products.

Kitty Black Perkins, an African American fashion designer, is known for her work on the Barbie doll line for Mattel. Born in racially segregated Spartanburg, South Carolina, Black Perkins excelled in art at Carver High School, an all-black school. After graduating with an associate degree in fashion design, she worked in the fashion industry, designing children’s clothing and sportswear for major retailers. In 1976, she responded to a blind newspaper ad and landed a position at Mattel, where she became the principal designer for Barbie in 1978. Black Perkins was responsible for creating the first Black Barbie, which was released in 1979, and went on to become the chief designer of fashions and doll concepts for Mattel’s Barbie line for over twenty-five years.

Mike Rowe, known for his podcast The Way I Heard It, is set to release a movie titled “Something to Stand For” on June 27, 2024. The movie consists of nine short stories from his podcast, brought to life with cinematic recreations. Each story revolves around a famous American who took risks to contribute to the country’s progress. Rowe emphasizes that the movie is not political but is unapologetically patriotic.
