Denis Leary returns to television, this time as an army colonel banished to the Netherlands. It seems, yelling at people in Dutch is somehow less disruptive than doing it stateside. In “Going Dutch,” Leary plays Colonel Patrick Quinn, a loudmouth military man reassigned to the sleepy USAG Stroopsdorf, a base seemingly more focused on cheese, laundry, and achieving a perfect 300 than any serious military operations.
To make matters worse (or perhaps funnier), Colonel Quinn finds himself under the command of his estranged daughter, Captain Quinn. Awkward family dinners are one thing, but awkward family chain of command? That’s sitcom gold.
The pilot episode finds the base personnel preparing for a performance in the town’s Tulip Festival. One can only imagine the potential for culturally insensitive mishaps and general Leary-esque mayhem. Will Colonel Quinn embrace the Dutch lifestyle? Will he finally learn to pronounce “Stroopwafel” correctly?
“Going Dutch” airs Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 9:31-10:00 PM ET/PT on FOX.
