Gypsy Rose Blanchard is an American woman who was convicted of second-degree murder in 2016 for the death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. She was sentenced to ten years in prison and was released on parole in December 2023 after serving eight years.
Blanchard claimed that she was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, alleging that her mother had convinced doctors that she had multiple illnesses and medical conditions, such as asthma, cancer, muscular dystrophy, and epilepsy. However, some people dispute this claim, arguing that Blanchard was never abused and that her mother was a “scam artist”.
While in prison, Blanchard got engaged to a man named Ken, whom she met through a pen pal program. She later married Louisiana teacher Ryan Anderson in a prison ceremony. However, the couple recently announced their separation so there is a lot of ground to cover there. Blanchard’s story has gained widespread media attention, with Hulu producing a limited series, “The Act”, based on her life.
