In Wednesday evenings episode of Grand Designs, Kevin McCloud takes us to the Lincolnshire Wolds, where high-flying millennials Zara, a professional makeup artist, and her partner Giuliano, a tech worker, are embarking on a bold venture.
The couple is leaving Reading behind to build a 400-square-meter malthouse-inspired home in the countryside, with the added challenge of project managing the construction themselves.
Giuliano, a building novice, quickly encounters obstacles with the excavations and foundations, facing a steep learning curve. With a fast-depleting budget, unexpected delays, and complicated living arrangements, both Zara and Giuliano find themselves deeply involved in the construction process.
They deal with various challenges, from carrying roof slates up ladders in a backpack to bartering with a local farmer for assistance and even risking specialist cladding installation themselves.
As the pressure mounts, will their youthful energy and determination pay off? Will they succeed in creating their dream home in the Lincolnshire Wolds?
