Great British Menu: Wales: Mains and Dessert (BBC Two, Wednesday, February 26, 2025)

Great British Menu Key Art

The banquet’s destination? Blenheim Palace. The culinary inspiration? None other than the great Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. “Great British Menu” returns to BBC Two with the Welsh chefs halfway through their heat, the pressure cooker officially whistling. This week, they’re tasked with creating main courses and desserts that would make even the famously hard-living Thomas raise a glass (or two).

Three Welsh chefs remain, each hoping their dishes celebrating great Britons will earn them a coveted spot in the final. But only two can advance, which means one chef will soon be singing their swan song. While the prospect of cooking for a banquet at the historic Blenheim Palace might seem daunting, these culinary gladiators are ready to rumble, armed with ladles and whisks.

Two of the dishes take direct inspiration from Thomas himself. One chef presents a Welsh lamb dish, attempting to capture the essence of the poet’s homeland. Another bravely tackles a kanafeh, a Middle Eastern dessert, perhaps as a nod to Thomas’s adventurous spirit (or maybe just a sign of culinary madness). Who knows what inspired this international detour? Either way, it’s a bold choice. Judging the culinary creations is veteran “Great British Menu” judge, Spencer Metzger. His discerning palate and theatrical pronouncements could easily make or break a chef’s chances.

With only two spots remaining, this week’s episode guarantees a heated kitchen and tense deliberation. Which chef will impress Metzger enough to secure their place at Blenheim Palace, and who will be left to drown their sorrows in a pint of Brains? Find out Wednesday on BBC Two.

Great British Menu airs Wednesdays at 8pm on BBC Two.
