ABC’s The Great Christmas Light Fight returns with its fifth installment, and frankly, my expectations are as inflated as Santa’s waistline after a night of milk and cookies. Four families – the Wrights, Machs, Artzes, and MacGregors – are set to unleash a barrage of blinking bulbs and synchronized sparkle in their quest for holiday domination. Sure, the prize is $50,000 and a trophy, but let’s be honest, the real reward is bragging rights and the chance to momentarily blind passing aircraft with their festive fervor.
Each family has clearly poured their heart, soul, and probably a considerable chunk of their savings into constructing these displays. We’re talking enough wattage to power a small town, enough extension cords to reach the North Pole, and enough inflatable snowmen to cause a nationwide helium shortage. It’s a spectacle of excess, and I, for one, am here for it.
Returning judge Carter Oosterhouse has the unenviable task of discerning which display is the most merry and bright. He’ll be scrutinizing everything from synchronization to storytelling, from sheer wattage to the clever use of reindeer antlers (or their inflatable equivalents). Will the Wrights’ winter wonderland wow him? Can the Machs’ megawatt magic impress? Will the Artzes’ artistic arrangements astound? Or will the MacGregors’ glittering grandeur grab the gold?
Tune in to ABC this Thursday, December 19 at 8:00 PM (EST) to witness the dazzling displays and discover which family takes home the cash and the coveted Light Fight trophy.
