It’s the most wonderful time of the year, at least for those who derive joy from the sight of enough incandescent bulbs to illuminate a small country. And for four families, it’s crunch time. The season finale of ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight” is upon us, promising a final burst of festive fervor before we all collapse in a post-eggnog haze.
This week, the Blasko, Slankard, Buchanan, and Clinkscales families throw their Santa hats into the ring, each vying for the ultimate holiday decorating bragging rights – and, of course, the not-insignificant $50,000 prize. We’ve seen some impressive displays this season, but who will impress judge Taniya Nayak enough to clinch the Light Fight trophy and avoid the ignominy of second place in a Christmas lights competition?
It’s hard to predict a winner in a contest where more is always more. Will it be the family who’s managed to incorporate every conceivable holiday character into their display, including that creepy elf on the shelf that seems to watch you sleep? Or will it be the family with the most technically sophisticated setup, where every bulb twinkles in perfect time with a Trans-Siberian Orchestra power ballad? One thing is for sure: subtlety is not on the agenda.
It’s the “final showdown,” ABC reminds us, so expect maximum wattage and, hopefully, at least one light-up reindeer that malfunctions hilariously.
“The Great Christmas Light Fight” Season 12 finale airs Thursday, December 19th at 9 PM on ABC.
