PBS’s “Great Migrations” continues its exploration of human movement across the globe, and this week’s episode, “Coming to America,” focuses on the impact of African and Caribbean immigrants on American culture. This is a topic ripe with complexity and nuance, and I’m hoping the documentary does it justice.
What stories will be told? How will the documentary address the unique challenges faced by Black immigrants in the U.S.? Will it explore the intersection of race, nationality, and identity? I’m hoping for a broad, inclusive perspective that encompasses a wide range of experiences.
With Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. at the helm, I’m confident that “Coming to America” will offer a thoughtful and insightful look at this important chapter in American history.
“Great Migrations: A People on the Move” airs Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 9:00 PM on PBS.
