For those craving a bit of theatrical magic, PBS’s “Great Performances” delivers the goods this Friday with a presentation of Cole Porter’s classic musical, “Kiss Me, Kate.” Filmed during its West End run, this production features a dazzling score, including Broadway standards like “Another Op’nin’, Another Show,” “So In Love,” and “Brush Up Your Shakespeare.”
Tony Award winner Stephanie J. Block makes her West End debut as the fiery Lilli Vanessi, starring opposite Adrian Dunbar as Fred Graham. The backstage romantic comedy is helmed by Tony-winning director Bartlett Sher, giving the classic material a fresh perspective.
Since 1972, “Great Performances” has brought the best of theater, dance, and music to television audiences, garnering numerous awards along the way, including Emmys, Peabodys, and Image Awards. This presentation of “Kiss Me, Kate” is a continuation of that tradition, offering a chance to experience the thrill of live theater from the comfort of your living room.
