This week’s “Grey’s Anatomy” threw a wrench – or perhaps a scalpel – into Meredith and Amelia’s Alzheimer’s research. While they’re stuck in Boston, pitching their groundbreaking work and hitting funding roadblocks, someone else has taken their published findings and hit the ground running: none other than the ever-confident (or should we say arrogant?) Tom Koracick.
Turns out, publishing research online as a “just in case” measure can have unintended consequences. Koracick is already testing treatments on mice with promising results. And to add insult to injury, Catherine Fox, who previously fired Teddy for funding Meredith and Amelia’s initial work, is now bankrolling Koracick’s efforts. Talk about a frustrating turn of events.
Amelia, during a visit to Koracick’s lab, sees the progress he’s making firsthand. Meredith, on the other hand, struggles with Koracick’s seemingly detached approach to the disease, particularly given her mother’s long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Meanwhile, back in Seattle, the ripples of this long-distance rivalry create some awkward situations. It looks like Meredith and Amelia might have to swallow their pride and consider partnering with Koracick if they want to remain at the forefront of Alzheimer’s research. But can they find a way to collaborate with someone whose motivations seem so different from their own?
“Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thursdays at 9/8c on ABC.
