Marvin Flute, everyone’s favorite semi-reformed con man turned detective, is back for a second season of animated antics in the aptly titled “Haunted Housewife.” As season premieres go, this one kicks off with a familiar sitcom trope: the adult child who refuses to leave the nest. Except in Grimsburg, nests are replaced with taxidermied dens, and adult children are voiced by Jon Hamm.
Harmony, clearly at her wit’s end, finally nudges (read: shoves) Flute out the door and into a rental with a spectral surprise. Turns out, Flute’s new digs come with a built-in housekeeper, albeit one of the ghostly variety. Initially, this arrangement works out swimmingly, with Flute enjoying a level of domestic tranquility he’s never experienced. But, in typical Flute fashion, this newfound bliss is short-lived. An ill-advised adult party doesn’t sit well with the resident spirit, leading to supernatural shenanigans and, one assumes, some hilarious havoc.
Meanwhile, back at the Flute family homestead, Harmony explores a serious relationship, forcing Stan to embrace the unfamiliar role of man of the house. Expect equal parts quirky humor and surprisingly poignant family moments as Grimsburg settles back into its darkly comedic groove.
Grimsburg airs Sundays at 9:30/8:30c on FOX.
