In Guy Martin: Top Gun, Guy takes on the challenge of flying a classic frontline fighter jet, the fastest machine he has ever piloted. Throughout the episode, Guy also explores the history and impact of jet engines, an extraordinary British invention that revolutionised transportation and shrunk the world.
Guy begins by researching the life and work of Sir Frank Whittle, the maverick genius who invented the jet engine. To better understand how jet engines work, Guy embarks on a unique project: building his own jet engine in his shed, which he astonishingly aims to complete in just one day.
With jet travel being a significant contributor to climate change, Guy also explores alternative options and investigates less damaging ways to power flight. He then heads to the Swiss Alps for the ultimate challenge: flying a classic frontline fighter jet through the mountains. During this final mission, Guy puts his skills to the test and discovers if he has what it takes to be a real-life Top Gun.
