Comedians, Can You Spell ‘Ridiculous’? Guy Montgomery’s Spelling Bee Returns to ABC Australia

Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee Key Art

Get your dictionaries ready, because Guy Montgomery’s “Guy Mont Spelling Bee” is back for more word-based silliness. The show returns for its second season on ABC TV this Wednesday, 4 June, at 8:35 PM AEST, bringing ten episodes of comedic spelling tests and over-the-top challenges.

Host Guy Montgomery and his trusty assistant Aaron Chen are ready to put a fresh batch of Australian funny people through their paces. Forget your grade-school spelling bees; this is about making spelling as entertainingly chaotic as possible. And they’ve lined up a stellar list of guests for the new season. You can look forward to seeing faces like Hannah Gadsby, Hamish Blake, Julia Morris, and Rove McManus, along with many others, all ready to butcher a word or two for your enjoyment.

Of course, it wouldn’t be the “Guy Mont Spelling Bee” without some utterly bonkers ways to spell words. Season 2 introduces new rounds with names like “The Love Spell,” “Speance,” and “Show and Spell.” Expect outlandish twists in each. “The Love Spell,” for example, apparently involves comedians trying to date people who might help them with their spelling. “Speance” sees contestants calling on a spirit for assistance in a spelling séance. And “Show and Spell” requires contestants to bring an item from home they can spell, but, naturally, there’s a catch.

The top prize each week? A one-way ticket to come back and defend their questionable spelling title on the next episode. If you missed the first season, it’s available to stream on ABC iview now, so you can catch up before the new season starts. The series is a joint effort between ABC and Kevin & Co, ready to prove that spelling doesn’t have to be boring – it can be downright silly.
