It seems even the quaint, cookie-cutter world of Hannah Swensen isn’t immune to the siren song of reality television. In “Reality Bites,” the latest installment of Hallmark Mystery’s long-running series, Hannah finds her beloved Cookie Jar overrun by cameras, lighting rigs, and the manufactured drama of a reality show. One might think this would be the biggest problem facing our baking sleuth, but one would be wrong.
The real trouble starts when the reality show’s producer turns up dead. Not just inconvenienced, not just suffering from a bad case of food poisoning from a questionable craft services table – dead. Naturally, this puts a damper on the filming schedule, and, more importantly, throws Hannah into detective mode. Because who needs ratings when you have a real-life murder to solve?
Partnering with Norman, because every good baker needs a trusty sidekick (and potential love interest), Hannah sets out to unmask the killer. Expect the usual Hallmark Mystery blend of cozy charm and amateur sleuthing, with a generous sprinkling of cookie-related puns. Meanwhile, Chad, apparently not content with letting Norman have all the fun, extends an invitation to Hannah. To court. Because why stick to solving murders when you can also have a legal system subplot?
This is Hallmark, so expect a few twists that are visible from miles away, but with all of the cast’s charm what more do you want. The episode is set to serve up a light-hearted whodunit with a side of romantic entanglements.
