It appears that many who have watched Netflix’s adaptation of “Missing You” may have missed a clever hidden detail. The show, which has been topping the UK’s Netflix charts, has a subtle easter egg that has gone largely unnoticed: a cameo appearance by the novel’s author, Harlan Coben, himself.
Coben isn’t acting in the series, but his face makes a brief appearance in the opening credits. Coben’s headshot is included in a montage of missing persons posters, a quick blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment. It’s a fun little nod to the writer that is sure to please his fans. It’s certainly a creative way to put the creator into his work.
The series itself has an interesting premise, it centers on Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar), a police detective whose life takes a dramatic turn when she stumbles upon her former fiancé on a dating app. This wouldn’t be so strange if he hadn’t disappeared a decade earlier. The series follows Kat as she attempts to unravel the mystery of what really happened to him, and in doing so, uncovers a number of shocking truths. The cast also includes Ashley Walters, Lenny Henry and Coben favorites Richard Armitage and James Nesbitt.
“Missing You” is based on Coben’s novel of the same name that was released in 2014 and is one of several Netflix adaptations currently available on the streamer.
“Missing You” is streaming now on Netflix.
