HBO and the BBC have announced a joint production of a new ten part drama series, ‘First Day on Earth’, starring Michaela Coel. The multi-award-winning actor and writer is known for her work on ‘Chewing Gum’ and HBO’s ‘I May Destroy You’.

‘First Day on Earth’ centres on British novelist Henri, portrayed by Coel, who finds herself at a crossroads. With her writing stagnant and her relationship at a standstill, Henri seizes the opportunity to work on a film production in Ghana, West Africa. This marks a personal journey for Henri, as Ghana is the homeland of her parents and the place where her estranged father lives. However, her expectations are challenged as she encounters unexpected dangers, hypocrisies, and the need to forge new friendships. The series will explore how Henri confronts her illusions and ultimately redefines her sense of self.
