HBO’s new documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery is set to debut on October 8, offering a deep dive into one of the most fascinating unsolved mysteries in technology: the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. Directed and produced by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Cullen Hoback, the film will air from 9:00 p.m. to 10:40 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will also be available to stream on Max.
The documentary follows Hoback as he embarks on a globe-trotting investigation, exploring the rise of Bitcoin and its potential to disrupt the global financial system.
Through interviews, digital forensics, and access to key players in the cryptocurrency world, Hoback uncovers new clues about the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, whose invention of Bitcoin has placed him on the verge of becoming one of the richest individuals in the world.
The film also explores the broader implications of Bitcoin’s integration into the global economy.
Money Electric is produced by Hyrax Films, in collaboration with HyperObject Industries and Hello Pictures. The project is executive produced by Adam McKay, alongside Todd Schulman, Cullen Hoback, and Taylor Jones. For HBO, executive producers include Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller, and Tina Nguyen.
