HBO has locked in Wednesday, July 2, 2025 for the premiere of Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print, a three-part documentary on the rise and impact of Ms. magazine. The film will air from 9:00 p.m. to 10:50 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and stream on Max.
The docuseries tracks the creation of the magazine that helped define second-wave feminism and broke through a media landscape shaped almost entirely by men. Launched in 1972, Ms. gave a national platform to stories the mainstream press ignored. The documentary uses landmark cover stories on abortion rights, domestic labor, and sexual politics to chart how the magazine redefined the public conversation around women’s lives.
Dear Ms. features first-person accounts from founding editors and contributors including Gloria Steinem, Letty Cottin Pogrebin, and Suzanne Braun Levine, with each episode directed by a different filmmaker: Salima Koroma, Alice Gu, and Cecilia Aldarondo.
Episode one, A Magazine for All Women, includes insights from Michelle Wallace and Dr. Lisa Coleman. Part two, Ms.: A Portable Friend, brings in Alan Alda. The final installment, No Comment, features Annie Sprinkle and Veronica Vera.
The series arrives as renewed fights over reproductive rights and gender equity return to the political foreground. But its focus stays grounded in the legacy of a magazine that pushed boundaries, provoked backlash, and helped shape a generation of readers.
