Hell Below returns to National Geographic for its fourth series, continuing to look at some of the most dramatic and pivotal submarine missions of World War II. The episode titled “Subversion” airs on Monday, 26 August 2024, at 8:00 pm.
This instalment focuses on the career of a young U-boat officer, charting his journey from being awarded command of his own submarine to the tensions that arise due to clashes over Nazi ideology. The episode also expands its lens to the Pacific, shedding light on the legendary status of the USS Silversides and USS Barb submarines, and journeys to the African Gold Coast, where U-boat ace Werner Henke faced his ultimate test.
