Original Creator Tim Kring Returns to Pen New Series

The 2006 superhero drama series Heroes is gearing up for another revival. Series creator Tim Kring is developing Heroes: Eclipsed, a new iteration of the popular show. The project is currently being pitched to buyers during the week of the solar eclipse, a celestial event that played a pivotal role in the original series.

Heroes: Eclipsed will be set years after the events of the original series. It will introduce a new group of heroes, dubbed “evos,” who are awakening to their extraordinary powers. These emerging heroes will find themselves facing familiar villains and new enemies as they strive to save the world from those seeking to suppress this evolution in humankind.

Heroes: Eclipsed marks the second attempt to revive the Heroes franchise. The first revival, Heroes: Reborn, was a 2015 limited series that also took place years after the original show. Heroes: Reborn featured a mix of new characters and returning favorites, including Jack Coleman, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Masi Oka, and Greg Grunberg.

The original Heroes series won over audiences with its unique take on superheroes in a realistic world. The show’s first season, with its iconic “Save the cheerleader, save the world” mantra, was a massive success, achieving critical acclaim and a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. However, subsequent seasons struggled to live up to the high bar set by the first, facing criticism for overly ambitious plots and a writers’ strike that impacted the show’s quality.

Despite the mixed reception of Heroes: Reborn, the Heroes franchise remains a significant part of television history. It launched the careers of several cast members, including Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere, and Zachary Quinto, and left an enduring impact on pop culture.

With Heroes: Eclipsed, Kring aims to recapture the magic of the show’s inaugural season and deliver a compelling new chapter in the Heroes universe. The series is envisioned as an ongoing series and has been pitched to NBC and streaming platforms.
