HGTV’s ‘The Flip Off’ Flips Out: On-Set Split Turns Up the Heat

The Flip Off Key Art

Well, this is awkward. HGTV’s new competition series, “The Flip Off,” was designed as a friendly house-flipping face-off, pitting exes Christina Haack and Tarek El Moussa (along with their respective spouses, Josh Hall and Heather Rae El Moussa) against each other. Think hammers, not hatchets. Turns out, somebody brought a sledgehammer to this renovation party.

The series, premiering Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET on HGTV, was initially conceived as a battle of the blended families. But mid-production, the floorboards gave way: Haack and Hall split, turning a lighthearted competition into a full-blown emotional demolition derby. Check out the preview below.

Cameras, naturally, were rolling, catching some of the tension leading up to the separation. Now, the show’s focus has shifted to Haack going solo against El Moussa, aiming to, as she puts it, “beat him at his own flipping game.” While it’s easy to anticipate an undercurrent of “consciously uncoupling” vibes, there appears to be a healthy dose of old-fashioned rivalry thrown in for good measure. We’ll see if Haack, armed with her team, can hammer out a victory. El Moussa’s penchant for what the network calls “endless bragging” is apparently fuel for Haack’s solo renovation quest.

Adding a touch of high-gloss finish to this construction chaos, “The Flip Off” will also feature guest judges like Heather Dubrow of “Real Housewives of Orange County” fame. Because if there’s one thing that goes well with relationship drama and power tools, it’s a generous helping of Orange County real estate wisdom. Plus Ant Anstead, Jeff Lewis, and both Haack’s and El Moussa’s mothers will drop by to add a little more familial fuel to the competitive inferno.

Tune in to HGTV on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET to witness this real estate renovation rivalry — and all the inevitable interpersonal rubble.
