Hidden Histories, British Ties: Jane Seymour Uncovers Family Secrets

Relative Secrets Key Art

BBC America and Acorn TV are joining forces to bring us “Relative Secrets,” a new unscripted series looking into the hidden histories found within seemingly ordinary American families. Hosted by Jane Seymour, the show mixes genealogy with a touch of true crime, digging into family mysteries that have connections back to Britain.

Premiering Monday, June 2nd, “Relative Secrets” includes four stand-alone episodes. Each one follows a different family as they deal with a long-buried secret. The series doesn’t just uncover these secrets; it also looks at how they continue to affect family members today. And since these families have roots in the UK, the show heads across the Atlantic to find historical context and sometimes dramatic information tied to their British heritage.

The cases feature some powerful stories: a World War II veteran troubled by his grandmother’s unsolved murder, and the daughter of a serial killer trying hard to escape her father’s dark past – stories that touch on both personal struggles and historical events. Helping lead the on-screen investigations is archaeologist Natasha Billson, who brings her own distinct approach to the search for answers.
