Forget “Clue,” this week’s High Potential finds the LAPD playing a very different kind of game. In “Let’s Play,” airing Tuesday, February 11th at 9 PM on ABC, an anonymous tip about a string of kidnappings sends the team down a rabbit hole of puzzles and board games. Seriously. Apparently, the kidnapper has a fondness for riddles and strategy, leaving cryptic clues scattered throughout Los Angeles like misplaced Monopoly pieces.
High Potential has always been a show about unconventional methods, pairing a single mom with a genius-level IQ with a by-the-book detective. It’s a formula that either works brilliantly or clunks with the subtlety of a Jenga tower collapsing, and so far this season, it’s been more of the former. I
t’ll be interesting to see how this unusual case tests their partnership – will they be able to crack the code before it’s game over for another victim? One can only hope the writers haven’t gotten too clever for their own good. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best, and I’m a little wary of the episode turning into a convoluted mess of red herrings and over-the-top game metaphors.
