ABC’s “High Potential,” the American adaptation of the French series “Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI),” continues its run with “Obsessed.” This episode throws another complicated case at Morgan (Kaitlin Olson), a single mom whose chaotic energy and unconventional crime-solving methods somehow manage to produce results. This time, it’s a young girl found assaulted on a beach, a situation guaranteed to rattle even Morgan’s considerable resilience.
While the crime itself takes center stage, “Obsessed” also tackles some personal threads. Morgan’s budding romance with Tom takes a step forward as she (gasp!) begins to open up. Meanwhile, Soto inches closer to uncovering the truth about Roman’s fate, adding a layer of suspense to the ongoing storyline.
“High Potential” walks a tightrope between procedural formula and character-driven quirks. It’s a balance that works surprisingly well, thanks largely to Olson’s comedic chops and Daniel Sunjata’s grounded performance as the exasperated Karadec. The supporting cast, including Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb, and Judy Reyes, rounds out the ensemble with a mix of eccentricity and charm.
“High Potential” airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on ABC.
