Hallmark’s decided to go for two this holiday season, aiming for a touchdown with a festive romance set against the backdrop of the Kansas City Chiefs. Will “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” score with viewers, or will it fumble in the red zone?
Hunter King stars as Alana, a Chiefs superfan so devoted she makes Donna Kelce look like a fair-weather follower. Alana’s in the running for the coveted “Fan of the Year” title, a contest overseen by none other than Tyler Hynes as Derrick, the team’s Director of Fan Engagement. You know, that crucial role every NFL team has.
As Alana attempts to dazzle Derrick with her Chiefs knowledge (and perhaps something more), a romance begins to develop. But their budding relationship hits a snag when a prized possession goes missing: a vintage Chiefs hat belonging to Alana’s grandfather, played by the always-game Ed Begley Jr. Because what’s a Hallmark movie without a touch of mild peril involving a sentimental item?
But “Holiday Touchdown” isn’t just about heartwarming romance and misplaced headwear. The film boasts a roster of Chiefs cameos that’ll make even the most casual fan say, “Hey, I know that guy!” Andy Reid, Trey Smith, Mecole Hardman Jr., Clyde Edwards-Helaire, George Karlaftis – they’re all here, along with the aforementioned Donna Kelce, bringing some real-world gridiron cred to the Hallmark universe. Even Jenna Bush Hager makes an appearance, because why not? Rounding out the cast are Christine Ebersole, Diedrich Bader, Megyn Price, Richard Riehle, and Taylen Biggs.
The movie seems to be aiming for a blend of saccharine charm and sporty spice, posing the age-old question: can the magic of Christmas (and a winning team) help Alana find love and her grandfather’s lucky hat? Tune in to find out.
“Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” premieres Saturday, November 30th at 8/7c on Hallmark.
