The enduring appeal of tic-tac-toe gets a star-studded upgrade as “Hollywood Squares” returns for its second episode. Sure, the premise is about as simple as it gets: two contestants try to win cash and prizes by playing tic-tac-toe, but the twist, of course, lies in the “squares.” Those squares are occupied by celebrities offering their “expert” opinions on a variety of questions, and it’s up to the contestants to decide if they’re bluffing or being truthful. It’s a formula that’s worked for decades, and this revival looks to capture that same magic.
This week’s episode features a fresh batch of famous faces, ready to offer their often questionable wisdom. Comedian Nicole Byer brings her signature wit, while Drew Carey, taking a break from “The Price is Right,” might actually know a thing or two. “Saturday Night Live” alum Bobby Moynihan is sure to inject some silliness into the proceedings. Rounding out the celebrity panel are Tichina Arnold, known for her comedic timing, Pete Holmes, whose brand of quirky humor should fit right in, the always-entertaining Debi Mazar, and the dryly hilarious Chelsea Peretti.
The real question isn’t about the celebrities’ knowledge, though. It’s about whether the contestants can decipher their often-absurd pronouncements. Are they being serious? Are they joking? Are they just trying to throw the contestant off? It’s a game of strategy, luck, and the ability to read a celebrity’s poker face (or lack thereof). Can these contestants separate the truth from the Hollywood haze? Only one of the two will come out on top. Tune in to find out!
