Ben and Erin Napier, the reigning monarchs of heartwarming home renovations, are back in Laurel, Mississippi, ready to sprinkle some more of their signature small-town charm. This week’s episode finds them assisting a couple and their three furry companions – all therapy dogs – as they transition from the frenetic pace of Ohio to the slower rhythms of the South. Having sold their previous home with what one can only assume is record-breaking speed, this family is in dire need of a haven, and the Napiers are their chosen saviors.
The central challenge, and the source of potential design fireworks, is a custom-built island. Now, islands in kitchens are about as common as shiplap in a Napier production, but this one apparently involves some “special elements” that are being kept tightly under wraps. Are we talking a built-in dog treat dispenser? A hidden margarita maker? A miniature replica of the Laurel town square? Your guess is as good as mine.
Regardless of the island’s peculiarities, one can reliably expect a healthy dose of emotional storytelling. Tears will be shed, hugs will be exchanged, and the couple will undoubtedly declare their new home “the perfect place to start our next chapter.” It’s a formula as comforting and predictable as a warm biscuit, and frankly, sometimes that’s exactly what you need on a Sunday night.
“Home Town” airs Sundays at 8/7c on HGTV.
