Homestead Rescue: Alligator Aid (Discovery, Sunday, December 8, 2024)

Homestead Rescue Key Art

The Raneys, Discovery Channel’s rugged first family of off-the-grid living, are ditching the mountains for the swamps of Florida. Trading grizzlies for gators, this Sunday’s Homestead Rescue finds the family facing a new set of challenges in a distinctly soggy environment. “Alligator Aid” sees Marty, Misty, and Matt attempting to salvage the homestead of a single mother whose property has been ravaged by recent tropical storms, resulting in not just a deluge of floodwater, but also a surge in uninvited reptilian guests.

It’s a change of scenery, sure, but the core Homestead Rescue formula remains intact: Take one struggling homesteader, add a dash of Raney family ingenuity, and stir vigorously until some semblance of order is restored. While the show’s usual setting offers remote mountain landscapes and the occasional grumpy bear, the Florida episode presents unique problems. Turns out, keeping alligators out of your living room requires a different skill set than, say, building a bear-proof pantry.

This episode presents the family with their first ever trip to Florida to help a family facing an influx of alligators and severe flooding brought on by recent tropical storms. Expect the usual resourcefulness that we have come to expect from this capable trio of outdoor survivalists. As Marty Raney, along with his daughter Misty Raney, a farmer, and son Matt Raney, a hunter and fisherman apply their homesteading expertise to a whole new ecosystem in the Sunshine State.
