After nine years presiding over small-claims court, Judge Michael Corriero is hanging up his robe on “Hot Bench.” His departure, announced earlier today, marks a significant shift for the syndicated show as it heads into its twelfth season. Corriero, one of the original judges when “Hot Bench” first aired in 2014, made it clear that this was his decision, expressing his desire to “pass the torch.” While this news will undoubtedly sadden loyal viewers who have become accustomed to his presence, the show must go on.
“Hot Bench,” the brainchild of courtroom television titan Judith Sheindlin (better known as Judge Judy), isn’t showing any signs of cooling down. The series has been renewed for a twelfth season, slated to premiere in the fall of 2025. Judges Rachel Juarez and Yodit Tewolde will continue to hold court, but the question of who will fill Corriero’s seat remains.
Executive Producer David Theodosopoulos acknowledged the weight of Corriero’s contribution to the show, praising his insights and even temperament. Corriero’s exit follows other shifts in the judge’s panel over the years. Originally appearing alongside Tanya Acker and Patricia DiMango, he eventually replaced Larry Bakman. Thursday, January 23, 2025, will mark a milestone for “Hot Bench” as it celebrates its 2,000th episode.
